REEDS is an Indian not-for-profit organization playing an active role since 1989 in formulation and implementing programs towards enhancing the quality of rural life and livelihoods. These include Sanitation & Hygiene; Safe Drinking Water; and Skills Development.
India Today’s national level Safaigiri Award 2016 conferred to REEDS on 2 October 2016 based on three criteria: scale, cost-effectiveness and innovation, is the testimony of REEDS commitment and expertise in promoting sound socio-economic strategies towards rural empowerment!
REEDS current initiatives in furthering ‘Clean India (Swachh Bharat) Mission’ are to improve the quality of life of 4000 + households spread across 11 rural communities of Chittoor District in Andhra Pradesh through promoting cleanliness. The fundamental factor of the initiative is to bringing attitudinal changes to adopt better practices in sanitation and hygiene. The project was initiated in April 2016 and slated to be completed by March 2017.
In achieving the project goal, creating toilet facilities is not proving that difficult, thanks to the government support, but the only challenge is bringing behavioral change among the communities. With our proven expertise in community engagement and built-in determined approach in the project plan we are able to bring transformational change in behaviors from the age old sanitation practices so that the mission is truly realized. To realize this in scale, there is every need of multi-dimensional support.
When we think of the scale of need – one in every ten deaths is linked to poor sanitation, 1.5 million children die of diarrhoea and 73 million working days are lost due to waterborne diseases, this needs concerted action. Come forward and support to make a change; your support allows us the opportunity to further the Clean India mission; and your donation of US$ 50 can enhance the quality of life of a rural household! In this pursuit, REEDS solicit generous financial support from all those committed to this social cause of global consequence.
Once this project is completed we all have every reason to be proud for able to have led close to 20,000 rural populace accessing better sanitation and secured from diseases. More satisfying would be to know that 50% of them are women and girls living with enhanced social dignity.
