Founded in 1928, National Taiwan University (NTU) has a rich history with distinct chapters of development and has entered the list of the top 100 universities ranked by The Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
The number of students reached 33,000 in 2009, benefiting from the knowledge and hard work of around 9,100 staff members. As of the 2009 academic year, NTU has a total of eleven colleges, 54 departments, 100 graduate institutes (which offer 100 Master's programs and 91 doctoral programs), and 25 research centers.
Being the first integrated and most prestigious institution of higher education in Taiwan, NTU has taken up the responsibility of promoting the level of academic research study and teaching in Taiwan, and has from the very beginning put emphasis on scholarly research and on free atmosphere of academic thought. NTU’s primary objective is to nurture all possibility of students and to create applicable knowledge in order to support social and economic advancement, as well as to the development of the community.
